Professional
Nick Peers, freelance journalist
I've been a professional journalist for
13 years, and have been self-employed as a freelance
writer and editor since January 2003. In that time I have
edited six titles - two as a full-time employee, and four in
a freelance capacity - and written for countless others. At
the last count, I had written over 3,000 pages of copy since
joining ST Format as Disk Editor in June 1994. I have also acted as
Contributing Editor for the Australian edition of
Microsoft Windows XP Magazine, Project Editor
on five PC World store guides, acted as a production
assistant/editor on several Future titles and also become a
Trainer, introducing Future's magazine teams to a new
workflow system in conjunction
with three other ex-Future editors.
I have written on a variety of subjects -
my field of expertise is PC computing for the home user, but
since joining Future in 1994 I have written for the Mac, on
science fiction and cult television, football, country
matters, genealogy, Web design and gadgets. I have written
tutorials, tips, reviews, news stories and interviews. Since
going freelance I have been fortunate enough to have been
employed by 11 different
publishing houses, and currently write on a regular basis
for three of them.
In this section of my site you can use the
links on the right to find out more about my professional
life and whether I might be able to offer you something for
your publication. You'll find details of the work that's
currently on-sale, commissions awaiting publication or
completion, plus a list of highlights from my time as a
freelancer so far. You can also delve deeper into my
professional history and discover some of the projects I was involved with during my eight-and-a-half
years as a full-time Future employee.
You'll also find links
to samples of my work that are currently online - either
hosted at this site or available elsewhere on the Web (also
check out the PC tips and tutorials link on the left). Last,
but not least, you'll also discover my full CV, just in case
you want to offer me a non-executive position at your
company that pays loads of money for a few days of
consultancy work a year. And if you're based in western
Canada, so much the better!
