Business, Brand and Corporate

During the past 12 years, I’ve undertaken work for a number of businesses and corporations through various third-party publishing and marketing companies.

1&1 Internet
I contributed regular blog posts – around 10 a month – to the 1&1 Internet blog from August 2014 to September 2015. These covered hosting, domains and other related material. Although written for 1&1 Internet, the pieces are designed to offer objective, practical advice to the blog’s audience.

Imparture
From September 2014 I’ve been writing social media and marketing playbooks for Imparture. From November my role expanded to include the subbing, rewriting and proofing of other playbooks to provide the range with a consistent tone and voice. In March 2015 I started compiling and creating slidedecks for the company’s trainers, and in June 2015 wrote a large number of corporate case studies around the use of social media in growing new business. In April 2016 I undertook the job of writing 200-word bios for each of the company’s ever-growing list of trainers.

DSG Retail (Dixons, Currys, PC World, Sandstrøm)
In 2003-5 I helped put together a series of buyer’s guide for the PC World chain of stores in the UK. In 2011 I wrote post-purchase tips guides under the Knowhow brand for kitchen appliances, general gadgets, computers and TVs.

In 2012 I became lead writer for the new Advent Computers website, commissioning as well as writing content, plus writing and producing video slideshow tutorials for Advent’s YouTube channel. I was also responsible for providing technical support through the website forum and updating Advent’s social media networks. I also contributed numerous technology blog posts to the Sandstrøm Style website, covering such topics as learning about soundbars, picking the correct sized TV for your living room and choosing the right built-in oven for your needs.

All of this work was done through first Crimson Publishing and later Engage Publishing.

Asus
In 2015 I wrote a series of blog posts on display signage for businesses. This work was commissioned by That Media Thing.

Dell Outlet
I’ve contributed content to a series of email newsletters aimed at small businesses. This work was carried out in 2008-9 through GGMR Ltd.

GX Networks
In 2008-9 I helped draft a number of emails written to encourage existing customers to renew or upgrade their web-hosting and domain-name services. These emails were written for the company’s 123-reg.co.uk, WebFusion and Donhost brands through GGMR Ltd.

Microsoft
I contributed an article on Microsoft Class Server/SharePoint for a Microsoft educational supplement in 2003. This work was commissioned through Future Publishing.

National Trust
I contributed an interview – Life after the Cumbrian Floods – to the National Trust’s free magazine for volunteers, Active! in spring 2010. The PDF is available on demand. I also helped transcribe and write up an interview that appeared in the spring 2011 issue. This work was done through BBC Magazines’ contract publishing division.

Nissan
I wrote a city guide to the best outdoor places for walking and visiting within the vicinity of Cardiff, Gateshead and Wells. This was published in a printed supplement in BBC Countryfile Magazine and a PDF copy is available on demand. The work was commissioned through BBC Magazines’ contract publishing division.

Vodafone
I wrote a number of online guides, helped compose a Twitter-based marketing campaign and various others bits and pieces during 2009-10. In 2013 I wrote handset material for the online shop, prompting the backhanded compliment, “Great copy. Who wrote this?” from a senior manager. This work was again commissioned through GGMR Ltd.
